Ignorance

I hesitate to post this article because it's so ignorant and so vile. But I find myself needing to share this kind of ignorance so it can be combated. But, here it is. Read if before you go on, please.

If the argument is "trannies" are biological males, we can answer that with the fact that a Y chromosome doesn't necessarily mean male (http://www.isna.org/faq/y_chromosome).

If the argument is that there are only two sexes--male and female, we can answer that there are numerous variations of intersex folks recognized in the US and around the globe (http://www.isna.org/faq/frequency).

But this is about ignorance on behalf of the writers. Regardless of whether this person was male, female, transgender or cisgender, if this story is true, this person was lurking in a restroom, not using the facilities and watching people. This person was a predator. A peeping tom at best, a possible pedophile or rapist at worst

I think it's ridiculous to say that people didn't speak up simply because they were afraid of the gender police. Personally I think they didn't speak up because in this world, most people don't wish to be rude face-to-face. Not only that, people just don't want to get involved most of the time. No time to stop and help. No time to sit and chat. No time to report or assist or enquire. People just don't want to get involved. They were on their holidays, probably with their children, and they didn't want to start a big *thing.* They'd probably have to call security and then they'd have to fill out a report and then, god forbid, they'd miss a ride or two.

Even as the parent of a trans kid, if I had seen a person lurking and leering in the restroom - I would have spoken out. Maybe ESPECIALLY because I am the parent of a trans teen. I don't want the right to have these excuses. I would have confronted this individual and contacted security, if necessary, because my child does not deserve to be lumped in with creepy people hanging out in restrooms full of kids -- whatever the gender identity, gender expression, sexuality, religion, skin colour or whatever other identifier that creep has. There are already laws against this stuff. We don't need to create new ones that harm people just trying to pee.
