Y'all know i've had a little obsession with Gender Affirmation Surgery, as my daughter has asked me to call it, for awhile. I'm super duper excited about this procedure I've just learned about (and have spent awhile trailing down the rabbit hole). It involves using the peritoneum to create a neo-vagina, which is particularly helpful for trans women with less "raw material," i.e. not much scrotal and penile tissue available for reconstruction And, bonus, the peritoneum is self-lubricating, which eliminates an issue many transwomen face.
I have gotten past the fact that I spend an awful lot of time online looking at vaginas, and I'm beginning to get excited for my daughter. Right now the WPATH standard of care is 18 years of age for gender affirmation surgery, but our counselor thinks that's on the verge of change and we'll be looking at 16 as the minimum age soon.
Our daughter is 16 now. It is very possible this is in her near future. And while her dad just can't think about all that right now, I can, and do, think about it often.
**If you're interested in the original studies out of India mentioned in the article, I think this might just be the stuff you're looking for.**
